Bakery Review - Schmid'ts

Spending a week with my two granddaughters is totally delightful.  Visiting a bakery every day is just the "icing on the cake"!  We decided it would be fun to review a different bakery each day of their visit.  So here is the info on the first one. . .

Schmidt's Bakery

Schmidt's Bakery has been in Salt Lake City for many years.  When I traveled to SLC in the 1980's I often stopped for a sweet indulgence at Schmidt's.  We visited their new location in South Jordan. The appearance of their shop was adorable with cascading baskets of colorful flowers.  Our rating for curb appeal was a 9! We ordered a sugar cookie, chocolate cupcake and a peanut butter bar.  Here's our assessment:

The watermelon decorated frosted sugar cookie looked appealing, but we were disappointed at the floury taste of the cookie. The frosting was yummy.  We rated it a 6.

The chocolate cupcake was comparable to a grocery store cupcake.  We hoped for a more gourmet type cupcake like most bakeries feature.  Not so at Schmidt's.  We rated it a 4.

The peanut butter blondie was not what we anticipated either.  We found it dry and cakey.  Rating on this was a 3.  I ordered a chocolate eclair for old time's sake.  It was always my favorite Schmidt's bakery item back in the day. . . delicious as usual.  All in all we liked the ambiance, speedy service and number of available items at Schmidt's.  Our overall rating was a 7.
